Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I’m spiritual, not religious. Why should I attend church? God is present everywhere and always. Worship at church helps us refocus our attention on God’s presence and grace in our lives, in the community and in the world around us. The church community supports our spiritual life during good times and bad. At church we learn about the spiritual skills and attitudes that open us to the mystery and wonder of God. At church we are connected to the wisdom of generations of Christians. We come because life is difficult. We come because life is beautiful. We come in gratitude. We come for community.

Why the Episcopal Church?
Welcoming Attitude. Compassionate Engagement. Respectful Questioning. Warm Hospitality.
As Episcopalians, we are free to wrestle with the real stuff of life, the hard questions of faith as we struggle to practice what we preach in the context of a complex and changing world. We are open to new revelation as we worship God in the context of the Eucharist and service to others in the name of Jesus Christ. Liturgy is the work of the people and our worship is at the heart of all we do. We express it through the Book of Common Prayer and music, both ancient and contemporary. We are part of the Episcopal Church in Colorado and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Why Saint Peter’s?
Our vision is to celebrate and proclaim Jesus’ love. Our purpose is to embrace all people with the love of Jesus. We value joyful worship rooted in tradition that enriches and provides abundant opportunities for learning.  We offer a wide variety of programs and ministries, including an active youth program, a vibrant music ministry and activities that focus on families with children. We seek to reach our community with love, abundance, compassion, healing, and wholeness. Our outreach ministries help us to serve others. We are a Christian community with love and compassion for everyone.

What happens on Sunday?
Our congregation meets in a beautiful sanctuary with large windows during the winter and an outdoor garden sanctuary during the summer. Our order of worship is fairly traditional. We use the Book of Common Prayer for our service accompanied by a weekly leaflet with scripture readings. Although there are some minor exceptions, our tradition is that we sit to listen, stand to sing (where comfortable), and kneel or stand (where comfortable) to pray.

There is music at our 10:00 am indoor service in the winter and at our 9:30 am outdoor service in the summer. Our music is traditional hymns accompanied by piano, organ, and an occasional instrumentalist. Our services feature interesting, biblically-based sermons with relevance to modern life.

Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper or the Eucharist, is offered at all our Sunday services. We are an open communion community and welcome all persons to our altar rail. If you do not wish to receive communion and you would rather receive a blessing, you may indicate your preference by crossing your arms and placing your hands on your shoulders. (If you would like to learn more, please reach out to our priest.)

Children are welcome in our indoor and outdoor sanctuary. We have a small area for young children to “pray and play” with worship-based materials or they can take a “kids in church bag” and sit with you.

Although a plate is passed for offerings during each service, no one is required to contribute money. Giving is an act of thanksgiving. Giving to the church is a result of a person’s response to God’s presence in their life. Contributions to the plate make the programs and ministries at St. Peter’s possible.

A fellowship coffee hour takes place after each worship service and is a wonderful way to meet others and build relationships.

We hope that you will feel welcome and at home. Please feel free to sit wherever you like. There is no dress code, wear what is comfortable. And please feel free to call our clergy by their first names.
